Great Incentives Await Blood Donors at

Talladega Superspeedway on Sept. 11

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The second annual Laps For Life: A Blood & Marrow Drive For Alabama, set for Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Talladega Superspeedway is quickly approaching and officials have announced great incentives for those donating the gift of life.

In addition to spectacular door prizes, such as a Richard Petty Driving Experience Ride Along and Jimmie Johnson autographed racing memorabilia, donors will have the opportunity to see the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series test session, time and weather permitting, as teams prepare for the UAW-Ford 500 - the first Car of Tomorrow race on a superspeedway. NASCAR test session will run from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. with an hour-long lunch break beginning at noon.

“We were thrilled when NASCAR announced that Talladega Superspeedway would be among tracks where teams are granted a test this year, and the timing of the test couldn’t have been better for this event. We are grateful NASCAR has agreed to allow us to use this as an incentive for people willing to give to such a good cause,” said Talladega Superspeedway President Rick Humphrey.

The Laps For Life: A Blood & Marrow Drive For Alabama will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and will begin at the Speed Channel Dome in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame adjacent to the track’s administration building. Participants can pre-register for a specific time slot and priority will be given to those who do so. Over 100 people have taken advantage of this time saving feature and additionally, everyone who pre-registers online will receive a Talladega Superspeedway souvenir hat when they join us in this life-saving effort at the Laps for Life Blood Drive. Remember in order to donate blood, one must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and present a valid photo ID or American Red Cross blood donor card. Talladega Superspeedway Laps For Life: A Blood & Marrow Drive For Alabama, began last year as part of a nationwide effort among multiple tracks. In addition to giving blood with the American Red Cross, fans are also encouraged to join the National Marrow Donor Program’s Registry of volunteer marrow donors. Every two seconds someone needs a life-sustaining or life-saving blood transfusion and every day thousands of patients with life-threatening diseases that could be treated with a marrow transplant are searching the National Registry for a donor.
