EVENTS, ARTS & CULTURE

Higher Education Day is March 6. The annual Higher Education Day rally at the Alabama State House will be March 6 beginning at 11 a.m. A barbecue lunch will be served. Free tickets can be printed off the Web site at www.higheredpartners.org. A bus will leave the Moody Music parking lot at 7 a.m. and will return at 5 p.m. that day. “March to the Schoolhouse Doors” in honor of civil rights leaders on the UA campus will be March 5 at 6 p.m. on the steps of Gorgas Library. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. invites all students to come out to march from Gorgas Library to Foster Auditorium in celebration of the life of Vivian Malone Jones and the Civil Rights Era. Puedo Hablar? May I Speak? is a new documentary offering a portrait of a Venezuelan society at a crossroads after seven years of a Hugo Chavez presidency. It will be shown on March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in Ferguson Theater. Free admission and open to the general public.

Elijah, Felix Mendelssohn’s epic oratorio, will be performed March 9 at 2 p.m. in Moody Concert Hall. Tickets and information: www.tsoonline.org, 752-5515, tso@tsoonline.org

Joint sophomore piano recital featuring Nathan Smith and Jennifer Lee. Given by two piano performance majors, this event will be held March 13 at 5:30 p.m. in Moody Music Building. Free admission. More information: Jennifer Lee, 256-683-1169

LUNAFEST, a national film festival by, for and about women, will be March 13 at the Bama Theatre. A catered reception by The Globe and a silent auction will begin at 6 p.m. Films begin at 7 p.m. All proceeds benefit the National Breast Cancer Fund and the Women’s Resource Center. Deadline for Capstone Creed Week calendar is March 10. The third annual Capstone Creed Week celebration will take place March 31-April 4. Student organizations may submit events for the week’s calendar by March 10 to tubbs017@sa.ua.edu. More information: Corrie Harris, 348-6114.

Crossroads Campus discussion is March 7 – Crossroads Community Center will host a Campus Discussion March 7 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., third floor rotunda of Carmichael Hall. Student Health Center offers MedFusion. This new software will allow you to make appointments online, fill out health forms, communicate with healthcare providers, and request refills. Join the Association of Child Life. Attend the meeting on March 5 at 6 p.m. at the Child Development Resource Center to find out about volunteer opportunities available for the month. The BamaBike Program has officially launched. All students interested in registering for this campuswide bicycle rental initiative should log onto http://bamabikes.ua.edu/ and click the “Sign Up” button located at the top of the browser.

Corolla Yearbook Pictures and Sales. The Corolla yearbook staff will be in front of Gordon Palmer on March 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. selling books and taking individual yearbook photos. Books are $70 and can be charged to your student account or credit card. More information: www.corolla.ua.edu.

Want to help children? If so, stop by the tables in the Ferguson Center on March 5 from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. and find out different ways you can volunteer this spring to help children around the globe or here in Tuscaloosa. More information: Megan Carroll or stop by the Community Service Center.
