"Jan. 22nd at 8:00 p.m, Zipf will be bringing the fruits of his most ambitious vision, the Pfriends on Pfilm Tour (Zipf, get it?) to Pour Cafe in Tuscaloosa."
I like the big red letters, don't you? If you want more information about Andy Zipf, you can also check out this interview with him at The Drop Online.
Here's a teaser: "Andy, you’ve always had a hugely engaging live show but is bringing video into the mix going to be too much for us to bear?"
What will Andy's answer be? I must find out by clicking on the link above!
The article also has a schedule of all venues and cities this tour will be hitting - including, of course, Pour Cafe, right here in our very own Tuscaloosa, AL.

NEWSLETTER: Andy Zipf: Pfriends on Pfilm Coming to Tuscaloosa on January 22nd
You don't know me, but I want you to believe in Andy Zipf. You don't have to befriend him on Myspace, vote for him on MTV, or buy his album on iTunes just listen to him. It just takes a click, Zipf will let you listen, http://myspace.com/andyzipf , and then download, http://andyzipf.com , all without charging a dime.
"I believe that music isn't something that's meant to be encapsulated, homogenized and programmed into a commercially viable product," said Zipf. "Music transcends commercialism and is meant to be experienced live."
It would be easy to throw Zipf into the category of "performing singer/songwriter," but somehow that seems to understate the sound of the ballad belting sardonic singer from D.C. Never content with the traditional musical marketing formula, Zipf has continually sought ways to reach his audience and provide a different type of experience and on Jan. 22nd at 8:00 p.m, Zipf will be bringing the fruits of his most ambitious vision, the Pfriends on Pfilm Tour (Zipf, get it?) to Pour Cafe in Tuscaloosa.
With the help of a few friends, Zipf's created a 45 minute live concert experience that's a little different than most shoe gazing troubadours. Still images and old film fuse with live video shot during the concert are thematically projected onto a screen, while Zipf and his band providing a live soundtrack. Basically, think Sigur Ros meets Damien Rice and the Velvet Underground. You could also just watch this, http://youtube.com/watch?v
It's not like Zipf's talent has never been recognized. He's toured across the nation, played SXSW, opened for numerous well respected bands, and been featured in PASTE, He's just never had that breakthrough taking him from clubs to arenas. Pfriends on Pfilm may not bring that widespread recognition, but that won't hold Zipf back at all.
"Pfriends on Pfilm will help to tell my story in a visually stimulating way, and enhance the musical experience for my audience," said Zipf. "I want to make this a unique show for each person that sees it, every night. It's going to be epic, or I'll go home."

Happy, Happy! & UA at Oxford
Dear Honors College Students,
I hope you are having and will continue to have the most marvelous holiday! It is good to study, and it is good to cease from study!
I remind you of the Alabama at Oxford program in second term summer, which boasts two wonderful honors courses: UH 210 The Arts of Oxford, taught by Ms. Allen Jones and EN 216 Honors English Literature 2, taught by me. Also there is a linguistics course "The Queen's
English," taught by Dr. Catherine Davies, a history course on British Popular Music, taught by Dr. John Beeler, and a Shakespeare course, taught by me. As I've mentioned to you earlier, this is a truly wonderful program, and I thought it best to bring it back to your attention while you are in the presence of folks who might love to ship you out of the country for five weeks in England next summer.
You can find more information at: http://international.ua.edu
I'd love to see the whole Oxford contingent made up of Honors College students!
Best wishes,
Bob Halli

December 18, 2007, Montclair, NJ – Music Resource Group, publisher of the best-selling music business contact database, The Musician’s Atlas and the interactive AtlasOnline, has announced the winners of the 7th Annual Independent Music Awards (IMA).
This year the IMAs, the awards program for the 'Indie Revolution,' honored more than 50 Winners in Music, Music packaging and Design categories. New categories added this year include College Label, Music For Children and Music Video categories.
Reflecting the breadth and diversity of the independent music community, IMA Winners and Finalists represent a mix of established artists such as Koko Taylor (Blues Album Winner), Miguel Migs (Dance/Electronica Album Winner), Ike Turner (Blues Album Finalist), Bob McGrath (Children’s Album Finalist) and Ernie Watts (Jazz Album Winner) alongside Indie favorites including The Apples In Stereo (Pop/Rock Song Winner), Johnny Dowd (Alt. Country Album Winner), Joan As Police Woman (Pop/Rock Album - Tie) and rising stars including No More Kings, Miko Marks (Country Song Winner), Girl In A Coma (Punk Song Winner) and The Silver Seas (Pop/Rock Finalist).
In addition to this year’s winners in various music and design categories, Drexel University’s Mad Dragon Records took the program’s top honors in the first College Record Label Award for the self-titled release for the band Hoots & Hellmouth. Another Mad Dragon release, Andrew Lipke’s “The Way Home,” was honored as a Finalist in the category along with the WVFS release, “Live At WVFS” from Florida State University; a Village Records release, “Banana Split” from New York University and “Put Your Ear To The Ground: Colorado Cuts Vol.2” from University of Colorado/Denver.
“More and more school programs are adapting to the changing realities of the industry and offering their students tangible, hands-on learning opportunities,” said Martin Folkman of Music Resource Group and the Independent Music Awards. “Many music business programs are putting out and marketing quality releases on their own labels; booking artists on national tours; signing artists to publishing deals, etc. The Musician’s Atlas and the Independent Music Awards supports all independent entrepreneurs in their pursuit of success,” said Folkman.
“Music Resource Group believes that the future of the music industry will be shaped by the mavericks who are currently enrolled in music and music business courses,” said Folkman “The Independent Music Awards is the only international program that is focused on promoting these students and their schools.”
About The IMAs
The IMAs is a unique, international program that helps vetted indie artists and releases overcome mainstream obstacles and reach wider audiences. IMA Winners are selected solely on the basis of artistic merit -marketing campaigns and sales figures have no impact on judges’ decisions.
IMA winners were selected from hundreds of Finalists from around the globe by a panel of celebrity and industry judges including Snoop Dogg, Suzanne Vega, Susan Tedeschi, Ray Davies, Chad Smith, Mavis Staples, Charlie Musselwhite, Martin Atkins, Judy Collins, Rolling Stone Contributor Anthony DeCurtis, DJ/Tastemaker Chris Douridas, Vans Warped Tour Founder Kevin Lyman, Activision Worldwide Music Executive Tim Riley and MTV Music Supervisor Carrie Hughes, among other artist and industry panelists.
Reflecting the realities of an increasingly fragmented marketplace, the IMAs eschew cash and prizes in favor of awarding Winners and Finalists with coveted marketing initiatives and exposure via yearlong print, online and radio promotion, distribution and performance opportunities.
IMA strategic partnerships with eMusic, Pure Volume, maniaTV, Havoc TV, World Space Satellite Radio, Burnside Distribution and the Planetary Group place Winners & Finalists in front of millions of music fans & industry decision makers.
